A movement, not a lecture
The morality campaign and mass education
Sri Sri Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Dev championed character building and mass education. He believed morality is the foundation of true religious practice and should be spread as a movement. He began this work in early adolescence and continued it independently for sixty to sixty-five years.
Early beginning
The movement started in 1914 at Ghoramara Playground, Chandpur (now in Bangladesh).
Unwavering commitment
He continued the work while the country was occupied with Swadeshi, Non-Cooperation, Quit India, and other movements.
Formal launch
The movement was inaugurated at Azad Hind Bagh, Calcutta, on 4 January 1976, with a call for wide participation.
Core belief
A morality campaign is essential for national development. It aims at a gradual, deep change in the behaviour and outlook of the young. Followers still carry the message.
